(Miami, FL) -- The latest update from the National Hurricane Center shows Tropical Depression Nine could grow even stronger than initially expected. A majority of Florida is currently in the cone of uncertainty with landfall forecast on the southwest coast Wednesday. This forecast is evolving. The system has 35 mile-per-hour winds, but the depression is expected to become a tropical storm by tonight, with "more significant intensification" forecast on Sunday and Monday.

Acting Director Jamie Rhome says the hurricane could impact Florida as a CAT 3 storm but it's still early and nobody should panic.

Rhome recommends checking hurricane supplies to ensure folks have everything they'll need if the storm impacts their area. He advises residents to keep an eye on updates through the weekend.
