Attorneys for the man charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump at his West Palm Beach golf course were back in a Fort Pierce federal courtroom yesterday for a pre-trial hearing.
Defense lawyers confirmed that they will not use an insanity plea for Ryan Routh, however attorneys may still use expert witnesses to testify about Routh's mental health.
His attorneys also want Judge Aileen Cannon to drop two weapons charges against the defendant. Those are possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and filing off the serial number on the rifle he allegedly had pointed at then-Presidential candidate Trump at Trump International. His attorneys say the charges violate Routh's Second Amendment rights.
The trial is slated to begin September 8.
