iHeart Radio Personality To Call For An End To Violence MLK Day Weekend

The community of Miami Gardens is in for a special treat during Martin Luther King Day Jr. weekend.  News Radio 610 WIOD's sister station, 103.5 The Beat's Papa Keith, is teaming up with Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert and the City of Miami Gardens for "People Matter, Pop Up for Peace," Saturday at Bennett M. Lifter Park.  There will be free food, performances, games, wellness and education.

"We're going to educate the community on non-violence, we're going to have poetry, music, bounce houses for the kids, basketball games, it's a family fun day," said Papa Keith, 103.5 The Beat Radio Personality.

The event is a result of his success hosting similar pop up events ahead of the first People Matter Fest in Liberty City over Father's Day weekend.  Papa Keith's goal with the pop ups is to push a message of non-violence.

"Really the narrative is just to let people know that hey, Father's Day Weekend, we're going to be asking for a 24-hour cease fire," said Keith.

In addition to putting an end to the violence, Keith says he wants to go into the toughest neighborhoods and let people know, they matter.

"Our message with my non-profit Papa Keith 4 People Matter is 'You matter.'  I want to explain to people why they matter in hopes of people understanding how important their life is and other people's lives are to prevent violence in their community," said Keith.
