Colt Ford shared a heartfelt statement on Wednesday (April 9) as he mourns the loss of his father.

The country singer-songwriter, whose real name is Jason Farris Brown, posted a video on his social media accounts to announce his father, Paul Brown, has died. He was 89. Ford, 54, said his late father recently caught one of his shows with fellow country star Brantley Gilbert in his hometown of Athens, Georgia, “and that made him so happy.” Brown passed away at home with his wife of more than six decades and his grandson by his side.

“Well, this video is hard to make,” Ford said. “It’s been — it was a blessing to have my daddy for 89 (years). He was 89 years old. He got to see me play in Athens with Brantley, and that made him so happy. I’m so grateful for all the prayers. …Last night [Tuesday, April 8], he went home to be with the Lord. And I’m at peace with it. And thank y’all for all your prayers and wishes. He passed away right there in his house that he loved, with my mama on one hand, married 62 years, and my son, Reynolds, on the other hand, his grandson that he thought hung the moon. And he just eased off. God bless y’all.”

Ford, who returned to the stage this year after enduring a near-fatal heart attack in 2024, recently asked for prayers for his father. Ford’s announcement on Wednesday quickly garnered condolences from fans and fellow artists, including Jake Owen, Uncle Kracker and others. See his statement here:
