Coastal towns are a great getaway for all sorts of travelers. History buffs, beach lovers, and small-town travelers can get something out of these underrated spots. Restaurants, downtown strolls, and outdoor adventures on the water are some of the main draws of these charming locations. Fewer crowds also mean more time and calm to appreciate everything these seaside communities offer.

If you're craving a waterside excursion, USA Today recently revealed the best coastal towns in America. These entries were nominated by an "expert panel" before readers voted on which ones were worth the visit.

A quaint Florida town was crowned America's top coastal town: Stuart! Known as "America's Happiest Seaside Town," this humble destination offers a beautiful downtown scene and thrilling activities on and off the water. Writers detail what you can look forward to in Stuart:

"Part of Florida’s Treasure Coast, with the impressive Roosevelt Bridge to its north, is the under-the-radar town of Stuart. Walk along the St. Lucie River at Flagler Park or Shepard Park, both great spots for picnicking, fishing, or otherwise relaxing. The Stuart Heritage Museum, Road to Victory Military Museum, and restaurant-lined downtown Stuart are all among the local attractions."

A popular Florida town ranked at No. 3. Key West earned a spot thanks to the gorgeous beaches, historic charm, walkability, festivals, and cultural draws.
